All those brave enough to back New Queen down to 4-9 favourite for the 5f novice fillies’ contest could have guessed their fate before the stalls opened as the two-year-old became very agitated and worked up in the preliminaries.

The original idea to take her to post before the other runners had to be scrapped as she played up and had to be dismounted by Oisin Murphy when brought back into the paddock as her wayward antics worsened.

The juvenile, who had been talked of as a Royal Ascot filly, eventually consented to go to post but the damage had been done and she could finish only a laboured third behind newcomer K Club.
