Vintage tilt could be next for Dornoch Castle after making it two from two

Mark Johnston will look at Group options for unbeaten two-year-old Dornoch Castle after he made it two wins from two starts when taking the 7f novice under Cieren Fallon.

The joint-trainer had been tempted by the bet365 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday, but part-owner John Brown was keen on the Gleneagles colt gaining more experience.

"We felt he needed a bit more experience before stepping up in class," said Johnston.

"We discussed it with John and we wanted to give him another run at novice level and it has worked out well," he added.

Having followed up his impressive debut win at Haydock last month, the Group 2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood could now be an option.

“He was a possible candidate for the Superlative, but we wanted another run in him and I think it’s likely that we’ll go to the Vintage Stakes," said Johnston. "It is one of a few races we have in mind for him at that level."

"We have a very good bunch in that division and there are several others who look like the real deal," he said.

"Killybegs Warrior, Finn’s Charm and Lakota Sioux are just a few of those who look good and we're very strong in that group of two-year-olds over seven furlongs."

Jockeys double up

Both Paul Mulrennan and Danny Tudhope enjoyed quickfire doubles, with the latter steering Charging Thunder to success in the feature 1m5f handicap.

Tudhope also won on True Warfare in the 7f handicap, while Mulrennan partnered Dick Datchery and Classy Al to victory.
