The evening card kicked off with a match in the 3m1f novices' hurdle in which Monsieur Arkadin converted no more than a penalty kick to see off sole opponent Oriental Fixer.

The 1-6 chance won as his price suggested under Alan Johns to get Tim Vaughan on the board for the 2017-18 jumps season.

Vaughan is now looking forward to putting his six-year-old over fences later this year. He said: "That was nice and he did what we hoped he'd so and picked up some prize-money.
