Plenty of chasers take one look at Aintree's big fences, roll their eyes, and curl up like an autumn leaf.

But they are mother's milk to others, and Ultragold won his first race since last year's Topham when repeating the trick on Friday, making virtually all and sticking on up the endless run-in to hold off Shanahan's Turn to give Colin Tizzard a distinctly showy one-two.

One of winning jockey Harry Cobden's greatest assets is that he is great over a fence, as befits a man who had been out of the womb for only around an hour and half before he was taken off for his first day's hunting. Rumour has it he stayed out all day.
