Tribal Star fends off Final Voyage to land richly deserved big pot for Ado McGuinness

Tribal Star gained a deserved big pot when landing the €50,000 Red God Handicap under Adam Caffrey following placed efforts at Newcastle on All-Weather Championships finals day and in the Northumberland Plate.

Trained by Ado McGuinness, the four-year-old was dropping back to 1m2½f and it proved to be an inspired decision as the 15-2 shot found enough close home to repel the fast-finishing Final Voyage by half a length.

McGuinness also had third-placed Star Harbour, who had been runner-up in last year's race.

Lordan double

Wayne Lordan recorded a double on the Adrian Murray-trained Ze Do Asfalto in the 7f claimer and 6-5 favourite Pierre Bonnard in the mile juvenile maiden for Aidan O'Brien.

Ze Do Asfalto won for the first time at the eighth attempt having finished runner-up over course and distance three times. The 9-1 shot made all under Lordan and denied 16-5 favourite Never Shout Never by three-quarters of a length.

Pierre Bonnard finished fourth in what could turn out to be a strong maiden at Leopardstown last month, with the third Montreal having won impressively since. The son of Camelot followed suit in decisive fashion, beating Shaihaan by two and a quarter lengths.
