Bridget Andrews dedicated her victory in a thrilling Grade 2 Rossington Main Novices' Hurdle to the late Mohaayed after the jockey bounced back from one of the hardest days of her career last Saturday to galvanise Faivoir to victory.

The rider was on board Mohaayed, who provided her with her sole Cheltenham Festival triumph in the 2018 County Hurdle, when he was fatally injured at Market Rasen a week ago.

Trained by Dan Skelton, Faivoir bravely fought back in the final strides to pip longtime leader Minella Drama by a neck under a visibly emotional Andrews.

"Last week was really tough losing Mohaayed, but I'm delighted for Faivoir," she said. "That was for Mohaayed because that was a seriously tough day."

Faivoir earned quotes of 25-1 (from 66) with the sponsors for Cheltenham's Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle in March, while Paddy Power slashed him to 12-1 (from 20) for next month's Betfair Hurdle at Newbury.

Mark of success

The first of four Grade 2s on the card went the way of the Fergal O'Brien-trained Silver Hallmark, who took advantage of a fall from favourite Allart to record a comfortable success in the Unibet-backed Altcar Novices' Chase.

The race went ahead on schedule despite some early panic over the removal of frost covers, and O'Brien was thrilled it did after watching the seven-year-old cruise to victory under Adam Wedge.

"We're delighted with him as it was only his second run over fences and fifth under rules," O'Brien said.

"I didn't put him in any of the novice chases at Cheltenham due to his lack of experience and if Aintree came up soft we'd have a look at something like that."

Scudamore suspended

Tom Scudamore, who struck aboard Royale Pagaille in the Peter Marsh, was hit with a seven-day ban for overuse of the whip when riding Farrants Way in the 3m½f handicap hurdle. His suspension will be served from February 6-12.
