Trainers and jockeys seemed genuinely surprised at how deep and testing conditions were at Galway on Tuesday.

The pre-racing description of yielding to soft lasted just one race as it was changed to soft, and most of the riders would not have disagreed had the word heavy been included.

However, Noel Meade could not have had it soft enough for staying chaser A Genie In Abottle, who made all under Sean Flanagan to win a competitive five-runner conditions chase.
