Tithonus makes a gigantic leap to land feature sprint handicap

The path from being placed in a couple of maiden hurdles to less than a year later winning a €25,000 sprint handicap is not exactly well-trodden, but it was traversed successfully by the Denis Hogan-trained Tithonus in the feature race.

The gelding put up a good performance to win for the third time this season but for the first time over this five-furlong trip. Given his history it was a surprise that he seemed to have little trouble laying up in a race run at a frantic early gallop.

"Denis said that we had a good draw and to jump and use it. We had a good position the whole way," said rider Rory Cleary. "It opened up well for him and he saw it out well, he's a very honest horse."
