If there's just a length and a half covering the first five home in the Yorkshire Cup it's usually a sign there was no great pace in the race or no great horse. Or both.

This was probably not a race from which to draw hard and fast conclusions, save that Dartmouth clearly retains all his rugged toughness.

He's a high-class middle-distance stayer, although he'll find it very hard to repeat last year's Hardwicke Stakes win should Jack Hobbs turn up.
