'The journey was worthwhile' - 700-mile round trip pays off for Harry Fry
Friday: Sedgefield
Harry Fry's decision to send two runners on a 700-mile round trip proved successful after he landed a double on the card.
Will Victory opened her account for the Dorset-based trainer at the second attempt when finishing seven lengths clear of the favourite Spot On Soph in the mares' handicap hurdle.
The double was completed 30 minutes later when Monjules justified favouritism to score in the 2m1f handicap hurdle.
"The journey was worthwhile, let's put it that way," said Fry. "The handicapper gave them both a fair chance as their mark has dropped considerably since their last run."
Fry also expressed his delight for the syndicate David's Partnership, who owned both of the winning pair.
"They're new owners so it's nice to see them enjoy themselves," he said. "It's a much more local track to them then it is to me, but they've had a good day out."
The double has done Fry's confidence no harm as he prepares to send Boothill, Love Envoi and Revels Hill to Sandown on Saturday, with all three having live chances on the card.
He added: "They're all running well, so fingers crossed we can carry this form over to a big weekend."
Decorated win
Jockey Henry Brooke is edging closer to his career best tally of winners after steering the Oliver Signy-trained Decorated to victory in the 2m4f novice hurdle.
Brooke's best campaign came in 2016-17 when he won 48 times, but he has already amassed 31 winners this season and heads to Aintree on Saturday for three rides, which includes Becher Chase leading contender Gesskille.
