Tom George, still on a high after God's Own’s emotional second success in the Haldon Gold Cup 24 hours earlier, unleashed another potentially smart performer in the shape of The Big Bite, who made a winning jumping debut in the 2m maiden hurdle.

Partnered by Noel Fehily, the five-year-old came with a well-timed run between the last two flights to hit the front before asserting and quickly putting a cosy five lengths between himself and runner-up Jammy George.

The winning trainer said: “He's a very exciting horse and Noel was pleased with him as he's a lovely individual. He's still learning as he was looking about a bit in front, so there's plenty of improvement to come.
