Teqany rides luck to break his chasing duck in incident-packed race
When a good horse is a lucky horse, good things obviously happen, and things very much went the way of the grey Teqany as he made a winning debut over fences in the 2m novice chase under Danny Mullins.
The drama began when odds-on favourite Moonball fell four out when in front, having been chancy with a few of her previous obstacles. The slack was soon taken up by Monatomic who looked to have the race under control when failing to rise at the last and giving Davy Russell a heavy fall – it forced him to miss his final mount of the day – and gifted the contest to the winner.
It was a third win for Teqany, two of them at this venue, and his Wexford-based trainer Tony Black was certainly grateful for any good luck which came in his direction. He said: "Lucky winner I suppose! He's a lucky horse as it is, because something similar happened when he won at Gowran last time, the second favourite went at the second hurdle and they had to bypass the last. But the fences are there to be jumped and that's it."
