Alex Ferguson will have to go some to be better known than his knighted namesake, but he showed what a talented amateur rider he is when steering High Bridge to victory in the Ladbrokes Intermediate Hurdle.

Trained by Ben Pauling, High Bridge made all under Ferguson in the race formerly run as the Gerry Feilden, with the rider securing his biggest winner and first for 278 days, albeit with only 33 mounts along the way.

He was sporting the colours of his grandmother Margaret on the son of Monsun, who used to run in the black Bloomfield silks of the jockey's father John.
