Sweet success for McNally as The Jam Man trounces Troytown rivals under Townend
Ronan McNally landed another monster gamble at Navan, this time with The Jam Man, who took full advantage of a handicap mark of 129 to score an 18-length victory in the Ladbrokes Troytown Chase, traditionally one of the hottest handicaps of the entire jumps season.
Back at the track where Dreal Deal won a handicap hurdle in September having been backed from 20-1 into 6-4, McNally sent out The Jam Man to justify 5-2 favouritism having begun the day as big as 7-1.
It was a shrewd piece of placing by McNally, who told the Racing Post during the week that he had one big shot at exploiting The Jam Man's chasing mark before the handicapper had his say.
