Star hurdler Cliffs Of Dover far from finished on the Flat

2m handicap winner Cliffs Of Dover, seen here in more familiar guise over hurdles
2m handicap winner Cliffs Of Dover, seen here in more familiar guise over hurdles

The Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr remains top of the agenda for 2m handicap winner Cliffs Of Dover, but if the ground over jumps does not dry out sufficiently Paul Nicholls will be happy to keep taking advantage of a very lenient Flat mark.

Cliffs Of Dover has a mark of 138 over hurdles but was able to race here from just 71, having been raised 7lb for a recent smooth course and distance win. He was always going to score again for Nicholls' daughter Megan, despite the winning margin over Age Of Wisdom ultimately three-quarters of a length, and there's still plenty of slack in his mark on the Flat.

Nicholls, who watched from home, confirmed: "The idea is still to go jumping when it dries up. He'll have an entry in the Scottish Champion Hurdle and there could be a race for him at Aintree, but the ground would have to be good. The Swinton would be another possibility later on, but at some stage he could win a nice race on the Flat on decent ground.
