Spencer in sparkling form after stateside success

On Saturday Jamie Spencer was riding a Grade 1 winner for Aidan O'Brien with Deauville in the Belmont Derby, and there were no signs of jetlag as he took the feature 5f handicap on Shamshon.

Having sported the colours of Jim and Fitri Hay at the weekend, Spencer was riding for Michael Buckley, another owner with whom he has enjoyed international success through Toast Of New York.

Shamshon had not won since May 2014 but came from off the pace to score by a length and a quarter, and Spencer said: "He's come back to a workable mark and we thought he ought to have a good chance. He came good off the bend and picked up well."
