William Haggas was rewarded for the faith he has demonstrated in Sky Kingdom with Group 3 success as he battled past favourite Mekhtaal to land the Prix du Prince d’Orange at Maisons-Laffitte on Saturday.

Having scored in the Wood Ditton on his debut, the son of Montjeu followed up with an encouraging third behind Hawkbill and Abdon in the Newmarket Stakes, before proving no match for subsequent Irish Champion Stakes victor Almanzor at Deauville last time.

“He's a nice colt with potential,” said rider Gerald Mosse. “I think he appreciated the softer ground today and he'd certainly come on since Deauville.”
