Skeltons strike in Southwell feature as Hatcher holds off Croco Bay

After two Flat runs Hatcher relished the return to fences as the seven-year-old edged out Croco Bay in the feature 2m handicap chase at Southwell on Sunday.

Trained by Dan Skelton, Hatcher tracked the 2019 Grand Annual winner for much of the race. The two pulled well clear of the field at the finish and the seven-year-old took control from two out.

It was not all simple, however, as Hatcher stumbled after jumping the last, but jockey Harry Skelton managed to stay on board and score by a length and a quarter, with Mcgroarty 19 lengths back in third.
