'She's been looking all over the place' - headgear helps Lotus Rose score again
Wednesday: Redcar
Roger Fell's decision to stick cheekpieces on Lotus Rose for the first time worked perfectly when the filly maintained her unbeaten record at the track with an easy success in the 5f handicap.
The three-year-old was a narrow course-and-distance winner in June, but sprinted clear of her rivals to win by a length and three-quarters and the trainer was delighted to see her back on her best behaviour.
"She loves a straight track where she can just go whoosh. If you watched her race before today she's been looking all over the place, at the crowd and even trying to look behind her," Fell said.
"She was looking everywhere except in front, where she should be looking. We did the trick today.
"I talked to Sam [James, jockey] and we reckoned she was on the right part of the track. I don't think she's much more than a 70-rated sprinter, but we'll see how far she can go up the ranks."
Hat-trick for Hart
In-form jockey Jason Hart completed a rapid 75-1 treble when winning the first three races on the card.
Hart partnered Talamanca to win the opening 6f nursery before Lincoln Rockstar took the mile nursery. Odds-on In These Shoes completed the jockey's three-timer in the 7f maiden.
Off the mark
Kaif proved her 150-1 third on her debut was no fluke when running out an impressive winner of the 7f maiden under Hayley Turner.
