'She's a bit of a freak' - Milton Harris surprised by improving juvenile Mucuna
Sunday: Stratford
Milton Harris described Mucuna as a "freak" after she recorded her fourth win in the 2m½f juvenile hurdle.
The three-year-old filly was dropped out under 7lb claimer Bradley Harris before breezing up the inside and going six lengths clear of the runner-up Rolypolymoly.
"I thought she would win if I'm being honest," said Harris. "She seems to be improving all the time and she stays well; she's a bit of a freak!
"She's owned by a relatively new owner and he's over the moon with her. She'd win again on the Flat, I think she's just strengthened up, so we're pleased about that. She's a lovely little filly.
"It's going to be harder now with penalties, but she'll probably go for the Market Rasen race [July 31] before the good boys come out. She might surprise us a bit, well, she already has! At the moment, until we get beat, that's what we'll keep doing."
Harris later brought up a double on the card with Fire Lake, ridden by Mitchell Bastyan, landing the 2m½f maiden hurdle.
Joy for Jamacho
The 2m½f handicap hurdle went to the Charlie Longsdon-trained Jamacho, who gamely fended off his strong-travelling stablemate Beyond The Clouds, who had also filled the runner-up position in this contest in 2020.
The winner, who is owned by the Stratford-On-Avon Racecourse Co Ltd, was recording his fourth victory at the Warwickshire track.
Ice cold
Although temperatures were soaring across the nation, jockey Jamie Brace was not feeling the heat as he was cool in delivering Joly Maker at the last before running out a three-and-a-half-length winner of the 2m3½f handicap chase.
