Sheila Lewis continues hot streak with small string as Volcano erupts at last

The remarkable season of trainer Sheila Lewis continued when Volcano landed the 3m novice handicap chase to become her fifth different winner of the campaign, despite the fact she has only six horses in training.

Having never had more than two winners in a season before, Lewis remarkably saddled five winners in a row last month and Volcano, ridden by Richard Johnson, was able to continue that hot streak when getting his head in front at the ninth time of asking since being purchased for £38,000 from the yard of Nigel Twiston-Davies last year.

Lewis, who is based in Three Cocks, Brecon, said: "I’m absolutely delighted. We bought him at Doncaster last May and he came with quite a reputation, but he completely lost his form last season.
