There was only ever a chance of a four-winner yankee bet being landed 20 years on from his bookie-bashing magnificent seven but Frankie Dettori did not let down his ardent followers with a brace of winning favourites.

"It is only two not seven," said Dettori at the applause and preparing for a flying dismount from Shalaa after the 2015 Morny and Middle Park winner made a triumphant but belated return from injury.

Trainer John Gosden, who had provided him with his other winner Eternally in the October Stakes, said: "He is just full of himself – the horse and the jockey!"
