If you ever wondered why they pack the rattler from Waterloo down to Esher, play pontoon with the perils of the M25 or flog in from some far-flung outpost in the shires, the answer came loud and clear in the shape of an epic Tingle Creek at Sandown.

Many of us are besotted with the marvels of the staying chaser but that love grants no immunity to the raw wonder of the top-class two-milers in full, ferocious and fabulous flight.

Just four lined up for the Tingle Creek but their form in the Racing Post card read 11/111- for Altior, /114-1 alongside Saint Calvados, 12111-1 preceded Sceau Royal, while Un De Sceaux boasted /11211-1.
