It took Sea Fox three attempts to get off the mark but when he did he earned a ringing endorsement from Adam Kirby, who came to Lingfield for one ride en route to Bath to steer him to a cosy length victory in the 6f maiden.

Trainer David Evans said: "I thought he was nice when he ran at Newbury but he was very green and then I couldn't believe he got beat at Salisbury over seven furlongs, which is the trip he wants. He was drawn on the wrong side and got slated for getting beat, but he came from the far side to the stands' side.

"He didn't like the ground today because it's dried up and he wants seven furlongs. I think he's very good. He got away with it today but he might be a bit sore tomorrow. Adam told me not to rush with him."
