Sarah Humphrey ends long losing spell as Railway Muice bolts up
Trainer Sarah Humphrey’s six month wait for a winner ended in style when Railway Muice bolted up under Nick Scholfield in the 2m7f handicap chase.
A winner of a handicap hurdle at Kilbeggan for Paul Flynn at the beginning of the month, the eight-year-old made a mockery of his chase mark of 92 on his debut for Humphrey.
The Cambridgeshire-based trainer, who went close to breaking the losing sequence at Worcester on Friday when Glimpse Of Gold was beaten half a length, said: "Someone we know in Ireland just said he was what he considered to be quite a well-handicapped horse.
"He’s been over for two or three weeks and he was obviously fit when he arrived. We’ve just ticked him over and done a little bit of schooling and he seems to enjoy living with us!”
Of the 179-day wait for a winner, Humphrey said: "We do very little over the summer – I don’t like summer jumping as I don’t like the injuries. It’s a brilliant boost to the yard to have a winner now we’re getting into the main part of the season."
Edmunds enjoys double
Stuart Edmunds enjoyed a 29-1 double, initiated by Addosh, who took the 2m½f juvenile hurdle on his second start over hurdles in the hands of Ciaran Gethings.
James Turner then guided the Edmunds-trained Hillfinch to a winning debut in the bumper to secure a first career victory on only his third ride.
Edmunds was eyeing a treble with Rowland Ward, but he could finish only fourth in the feature 2m½f handicap hurdle, five lengths behind the Fergal O’Brien-trained Valentino Dancer, who was ridden by Paddy Brennan.
