Although we are in the latter stages of 2020, Flat racing rests for no-one and we may have witnessed two talented juveniles in the shape of Sammarr and Vital Force, who dominated the mile fillies' novice event.

They were towards the rear early but picked up in fine style when the pace quickened, with Sammarr eventually running out a cosy length-and-a-quarter winner over her well-bred rival.

The daughter of Golden Horn should be open to further progress over longer trips, and the winner's time also compared favourably to the older horse handicaps run over the same trip on the card.

Robert Havlin, who was aboard the runner-up, suggested Vital Force could be seen again this winter. She will likely take some stopping when next seen.

One to go for Doyle

Hollie Doyle finished third in the voting for BBC Sports Personality of the Year on Sunday but it was back to the daily grind just hours later with four rides on the card.

Doyle converted one of those chances, Little Sunflower, into a winner and now needs just one more success to reach the milestone of 150 British Flat winners for the year.

Little Sunflower gamely kept finding in front to take the 6f nursery, and Doyle said: "She's been running over seven furlongs and a mile, so we knew she gets further, and she was tough in front. William [Stone, trainer] has been using me since I was a 7lb claimer and he's one of those who put me on map. He's so loyal."

More winners for Morris

For the tenth year running Luke Morris comfortably surpassed 100 British winners for the season and his skills were on show again courtesy of a double thanks to Kodiac Harbour and A Sure Welcome.

Both horses were recording deserved wins after a string of narrow misses. A Sure Welcome's late rally to land the 6f handicap came just two days after a close-up third at Wolverhampton.

Morris told Sky Sports Racing: "He's a horse who has been knocking on the door and deserves to get his head in front. He only ran on Saturday at Wolverhampton so credit to John [Spearing, trainer] and the team."
