Sam England ended the year on a high when claiming the biggest prize of her training career as Chef D'Oeuvre stayed on dourly in the £25,000 The Last Fling Handicap Chase.

The Guiseley-based trainer, who was known as Sam Drake during her riding days, had some help in the saddle from her husband Jonathan, who got one last effort out of the 7-1 winner to deny favourite Back To The Thatch following a protracted duel.

Formerly trained by Warren Greatrex, Chef D'Oeuvre appeared to relish the step up to 3m3½f and is set to be campaign over even further in the new year.
