Saffie Osborne extends prolific partnership with 'yard favourite' Pettochside
The popular Megalala ran to the age of 16 and Hampshire trainer John Bridger has another star veteran in feature 5f handicap winner Pettochside.
Apprentice Saffie Osborne is 4-5 on the 12-year-old after his five-length rout, with Bridger saddling a fourth winner from his last ten runners.
Bridger said: "He loves this soft ground and Saffie has done really well on him. She understands him and is a good young jockey.
"He's a real yard favourite and a character. He has to go out early in the morning, otherwise he gets too het up, but he enjoys his routine and is a cracking horse."
Double joy for in-form Harris
Monmouthshire trainer Ron Harris boosted his fine recent record to four winners from 11 runners as sprinters Sarah’s Verse and Secret Potion landed the 5½f handicaps.
Sarah’s Verse extended her unbeaten run at the course to three under apprentice Tyler Heard before Secret Potion, the mount of Jason Watson, gained his third victory from 19 runs at Bath.
Poignant success
Maxine was a poignant winner for Harry Dunlop as she scored for a syndicate of friends and old owners of the trainer’s late father and former champion trainer John Dunlop.
The three-year-old filly relished testing conditions on her first start on turf to trounce her rivals by nine lengths under Nicola Currie.
Good day for Kirby
On a day when Adam Kirby was confirmed as John Leeper’s rider in the Cazoo Derby, the jockey rode a double aboard 5f novice winner Caturra for Clive Cox and 1m2f maiden scorer First Connection for Charlie Fellowes.
