His soft ground specialist had been restricted to just two runs since winning the feature 7f handicap on this card in 2018 and the chances of a repeat success here looked slim in a sun-baked build-up.
But the weather changed with a vengeance, persistent driving rain changed the ground from good to firm, firm in places on Friday morning to soft by the time of the £45,000 contest.
