The Juddmonte International will be Ruling Court's major summer target after Charlie Appleby underlined his preference to go up in trip with the 2,000 Guineas winner.

The handsome colt beat Field Of Gold at Newmarket in May before being a late non-runner in the Derby due to the ground. But he was put into the shade by his grey rival in the St James's Palace Stakes.

It was clear from some way out that Ruling Court would not be able to match his Rowley Mile effort at Ascot as he came under pressure early in the race and was beaten just over seven lengths in third.
