You have to go back to 1991 and Mystiko to find the last Free Handicap winner who went on to claim the 2,000 Guineas, and the jury is out as to whether this year's winner, Shine So Bright, will have enough stamina for the Classic.

Trained by Andrew Balding, Shine So Bright made all to take the 7f Listed prize sponsored by bet365 by a length and three-quarters, a first victory since his debut at Nottingham last June.

Balding said: "He's a really solid horse. He was a bit unlucky in the Gimcrack and the ground went against him in the Mill Reef. The big question mark is whether he'll stay a mile.
