Owners Trish Hall and Colin Fletcher have only one horse in training but will head to the royal meeting here next month with a live chance of experiencing one of Flat racing’s ultimate highs after Count Calabash put up a remarkable performance to win a competitive 1m4f handicap.

Ultimately a comfortable one and three-quarter length scorer, Count Calabash was fighting rider Charles Bishop for the entire race but just kept galloping.

“That’s a dream come true,” said Fletcher. “He’s been tricky and has always been keen in his races but he certainly gets the trip! We’re living the dream with only one horse and to go to Royal Ascot would be fantastic.”
