Royal Ascot beckons for unwanted Summer Sands after promising Beverley success

The horse nobody wanted will be lining up with the best around at Royal Ascot in a couple of weeks after Summer Sands earned a shot at the Norfolk Stakes when winning the Truckingby Brian Yeardley Two Year Old Trophy at Beverley.

Summer Sands made a measly £2,000 as a yearling when picked up by breeze-up consignor Robson Aguiar at the Tattersalls Ascot September Sale. However, when returned to the venue seven months later he blew viewers away in his workout, prompting big-spending owner Peter Swann of the Cool Silk Partnership to splash out £85,000 on him.

After a promising debut when third at York, Summer Sands showed a resolute attitude to fend off Oh Purple Reign by half a length under jockey Barry McHugh.
