The decision to send out runners under rules seems to be paying off for Max Comley this spring after he celebrated his second success with Land Girl's Luck in the 2m1f mares' maiden hurdle.

The six-year-old showed signs of greenness but was still able to outclass her rivals under David Bass, pulling six lengths clear of Lara Kaleo to win at the fourth attempt.

"She ran in a three-runner race at Exeter recently and did her best work late on, so we just thought over two miles we'll ride her really positively and let her use her jumping, because she jumps really well even though she's not the biggest," Bass told Sky Sports Racing. "Max thought the cheekpieces would help and they made a big difference."

Comley, who worked for Kim Bailey before training point-to-point horses, took out a full licence in November and saddled his first rules winner last month.

"I'm delighted to ride a winner for Max, we're good friends and he's got a really good team," Bass added. "He's very driven and ambitious and hopefully there's a lot more winners to come together."

Page pounces

An excellent jump at the last was not enough to seal victory in the 3m2½f handicap chase for Ann D'Arabie after the favourite was swept aside by Old Page in a charge to the line.

The eight-year-old found extra under William Maggs to score by a neck, backing up his victory at this track two weeks ago.
