The ups and downs of life as a jockey were evident when an hour after being hurled to the concrete and kicked by his intended mount Fr Gilligansvoyge, Ricky Doyle quite literally picked himself up to guide the Conor O’Dwyer-trained Don’t Let Go to a deserved victory in the 3m1f handicap chase.

Settled at the rear, Don’t Let Go was asked to take closer order by Doyle around three out before delivering a well-timed effort in the straight, where she always appeared to be getting the upper hand.

O’Dwyer, who didn’t see Doyle’s fall in the parade ring over an hour earlier, said: “He got a right kick but that’ll perk him up a bit.
