Richard Kingscote on verge of beating career-best annual tally after Crown rout
Wednesday: Nottingham
Richard Kingscote equalled his best annual tally of 113 winners in style when partnering potential Classic hope Desert Crown to an impressive debut win at the track's final meeting of the year.
The Berkshire-based jockey has enjoyed a fruitful association with Sir Michael Stoute this year and rode out for the trainer before heading to the track, where he hit top gear with the son of Nathaniel.
Desert Crown joined Group 1 winners Mishriff and Space Blues in winning the first division of the 1m½f contest and earned a quote of 40-1 for next year's Cazoo Derby with Paddy Power.
Sat just off an even pace set by experienced pair Rockfire and Flamborough, Desert Crown was in the right place to strike at the furlong pole before going on to score by five and a half lengths.
Philip Robinson, racing manager to owner Saeed Suhail, said: "Richard said he was a very nice horse and he's one to look forward to for next year. He was bought by Richard Brown of Blandford Bloodstock last year and he'll get further but whether he's a Derby horse is another matter."
Raasel stars in Marquand double
Raasel landed his five-timer and fourth course-and-distance win in a row in the 5f sprint handicap for Tom Marquand, who rode a double.
The 5-6 chance came around his eight rivals to get a clear run down the middle of the track before reeling in Sir Titus. His part-owner Chris Dixon said he would be aimed at "nice handicaps" next year.
Marquand kicked off his double with victory aboard Godolphin's Walk Of Stars in the second division of the 1m½f maiden. The favourite galloped on strongly to account for market rival Glam De Vega.
Jet takes off
Group 1 Fillies & Mares Stakes winner Eshaada landed a division of the opening 1m½f maiden fillies stakes for Roger Varian last year and the trainer looked likely to follow up with a furlong to travel when his runner Oblong Song was in the thick of the action.
However, the daughter of Nathaniel was denied by the 11-4 market leader Suffrajet, who won by a short head for trainer Mark Johnston.
The winner, ridden by Jason Hart, went one better than on her recent debut at Doncaster, where she chased home Moon De Vega.
Eight-day ban for Whelan
Trevor Whelan received an eight-day ban for causing interference on his mount My Name's Howard in the nursery won by Superior Force.
