Repeat win for 'consistent' Forget You Not delights Jackie du Plessis
Tuesday: Exeter
Forget You Not repeated last season's win in the 2m3f handicap chase under James Best although this time at significantly shorter odds.
The Jackie du Plessis-trained seven-year-old was the 25-1 outsider of six when landing this event 12 months ago, but justified 15-8 favouritism on this occasion.
The win supplied du Plessis with her third win of the season and she said: “It’s nice to underline his class. He’s been really consistent since we’ve had him and he tries his best.
"He’s quite a big, unfurnished horse and I’m hoping that this year he’s that little bit stronger and we can take him further. You’d certainly think he can improve for another year on his back.
"It would be nice to find some more races around Exeter because we’ve been here twice and won both times. I don’t know about going for it again next season. Any win feels great, I’m not fussy where.”
Repeat result
Also taking the same race for the second successive year was Flat trainer Ralph Beckett, who won the junior bumper with Twentyfirst Lancer.
Daryl Jacob edged out Tique in a photo-finish aboard the three-year-old who, like last year’s winner Eel Pie Island, was bred by Mick Channon.
Memorable win
Jockey Harry Atkins enjoyed a first career win from just his fourth ride when guiding the Martin Keighley-trained Herecomeshogan to a comfortable success in the 2m2½f handicap hurdle for amateur riders.
Keighley’s other runner Mr Mafia was pulled up by Sean Bowen in the 3m feature handicap chase won by David Pipe’s Red Happy.
