Ralph Beckett wins Pontefract Listed race for fourth time in eight years as Allonsy strikes

Ralph Beckett trained the winner of the Pontefract Castle Fillies' Stakes for the fourth time in eight years as Allonsy successfully dropped to Listed level under Hector Crouch.
Last seen finishing fourth in the Group 3 Bronte Cup Fillies' Stakes at York, the four-year-old beat the fellow class-dropping Karmology by a neck in the £50,000 contest.
Kirsten Rausing’s homebred won four handicaps in a row last year and, after adding a Listed victory to her CV, Crouch told Racing TV: “She’d been pitched in the deep end in Group 3 company, so to drop back into Listed class and get her head in front is very important for her owner-breeder.
“She’s extremely hardy. Once we got her figured out in her three-year-old career, she did nothing but improve and she finished second in a Listed race at Ascot at the back end.”
Crouch added: “She was a little bit frustrating and we switched her to running prominently and it made a big difference. She’s grown up a lot and you don’t have to ride her quite as forward.
“We’ll go back up in grade and see what she can do.”
Hat-trick
The Harry Burns-ridden Twilight Guest backed up two wins at Brighton with another in the 1m2f handicap for trainer George Margarson.
Turf winner
Fionn McSharry trained her first Flat turf winner of the season when outsider of three Sol Cayo won the 1m4f handicap under Danny Tudhope.
Newcomer to note
Enchant, a £300,000 breeze-up purchase, made a successful debut under Sam James in the 6f fillies’ novice for Wathnan Racing and Karl Burke.
