It was an unforgettable day for trainer Ralph Beckett after he pulled off a 21,119-1 five-timer with victories at Newmarket and York.

Beckett landed four of the seven races at Newmarket, all ridden by Harry Bentley, including the Group 3 Zetland Stakes and Group 3 Darley Stakes with Max Vega and Feliciana De Vega respectively.

"My head man Adam Kite was convinced we'd have a good day," the trainer said. "I'm really pleased it came together and I'm pretty sure it's the first time I've had four on one card.

"We had a tricky spring and a bit of a blip in July, but it's always a good idea to finish the season off well. What a day!"

Beckett won the opening races on the two cards, with 9-2 shot Lucander claiming the nursery at York and Tomfre upsetting the odds with a 7-1 success in the opener at Newmarket.

He was then duly rewarded for rolling the dice with Max Vega after his commanding three-length victory in the Zetland Stakes.

“I wasn't planning on coming here but he was well and I was sure he'd stay. He was always going to handle the ground so it felt like the right thing to do," Beckett said.

"There isn't much of him, he wasn't a big yearling and he hasn't grown into a big two-year-old, but he'll develop over the winter and will have no problem getting further."

Beckett smiled at the introduction of Max Vega at 33-1 for the Investec Derby, but did not make any plans for the two-year-old.

After Richenza obliged at 11-1 in the Listed Boadicea Stakes, Feliciana De Vega signed off the trainer's day in style with a comfortable three-length triumph in the Darley Stakes.

"She struggled in the spring with various physical issues and we weren't getting it right," said Beckett.

"We went to France last week and she had nowhere to go for the entirety of the race and pulled up full of running. It's a good job she didn't win at Saint-Cloud as she wouldn't have come here. She's a good filly and she's shown that today."
