The Listed Betway King Charles II Stakes could not have been better scheduled on the afternoon of the royal wedding in which Purser earned his slot in front of the Queen when winning with something in hand.

The punters who had latched onto the 6-4 favourite were later raising a glass to the statue of the 'Merry Monarch' himself, which has stood in the premier courtyard for the past two years and was unveiled by the Duchess of Cornwall.

John Gosden was winning the 7f contest – which is often considered a warm up for the Group 3 Jersey Stakes – for only the second time when Robert Havlin powered the recent course winner out of the Dip to foil the late flourish of Mutaaqeb.
