On his 33rd start at the age of seven, Spark Plug made his first run at 1m4f a winning one as he swooped to land the Listed 32Red Wild Flower Stakes at Kempton on Wednesday.

The Brian Meehan-trained gelding, whose last win in July 2017 also came at Listed level, was produced wide into the straight and quickened up strongly at the cutaway under Tom Marquand. He led approaching the final furlong and held on well from 13-8 favourite Verdana Blue.

Also finishing strongly down the centre of the track were Time Shanakill and Pipes Of Peace, who were third and fourth respectively.
