Paul Mulrennan carves out another happy Newbury memory on Orlaith

It proved a shrewd decision by Paul Mulrennan to turn down five rides at his local track Thirsk as he landed Newbury's feature Listed Byerley Stud Stakes in fine style aboard Orlaith.

It is just over a 500-mile round trip from North Yorkshire to Newbury but Mulrennan was glad he made the journey after the Iain Jardine-trained juvenile held off Al Raya by threequarters of a length.

The jockey said: "Thirsk is on tonight and I only live two minutes away but I've had plenty of luck here in the past.
