Evan Sutherland was as surprised as most Channel 4 viewers – but he wasn't complaining as Highland Colori made a modest year an awful lot better.

His smart sprinter had won the Ayr Gold Cup in 2013 but was without a victory since that year and was returned a 22-1 shot here after ending the drought in the mile handicap.

"That was a lovely surprise," admitted the owner, who had not been tempted to take advantage of those attractive odds.
