'One of the easiest rides you'd have around here' - The Foxes 16-1 for Princes of Wales's after Huxley Stakes romp

The Foxes looks set to be aimed at more lucrative international targets after the globetrotter made a perfect return to Britain in the Huxley Stakes.

Winner of the Dante two years ago, the five-year-old had run huge races overseas the last twice, coming fourth behind superstar Romantic Warrior in the Hong Kong Cup before finishing runner-up to Rebel's Romance in the HH The Amir Trophy in Qatar in February.

He picked up his third Group 2 triumph when scoring at Chester on Friday by a length and three-quarters under Oisin Murphy.

Murphy said: "He was superbly prepared, as it wasn't smooth sailing from Doha to here. He was push-button and one of the easiest rides you'd have around here. He didn't always have gate speed but it's come together over the last few starts. It was a joy."

The Foxes was cut to a general 16-1 (from around 25) for the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot next month, but also secured his plane tickets for later in the year.

Alastair Donald, racing adviser to owners King Power Racing, said: "He ran a great race in Doha. Rebel's Romance is a tough nut to crack and he gave him a real run for his money. You can never be totally confident of what'll happen at Chester, but it went perfectly to plan.

"He had a terrible draw in Hong Kong and would have been a close second or third had he not been drawn in the car park, as he finished like a train. We've got to keep him and Bellum Justum apart for the summer as they're both fast-ground horses. There will be more travelling in the autumn, but we'll enjoy them here first."

Al Wasl causes Derby storm

Ahmad Al Shaikh's lifelong dream to win the Derby is alive again as Al Wasl Storm booked his place in the Epsom Classic with success in the 1m4f½f maiden.

Al Shaikh has had rank outsiders Hoo Ya Mal and Khalifa Sat finish runner-up in the Derby, while Deira Mile was fourth behind City Of Troy under his Green Team Racing banner last year.

Al Wasl Storm is likely to be another outsider for his owner, but looks set to take his chance at Epsom after his length-and-a-quarter win under David Probert.

Asked if we will see him in Britain's most valuable race on June 7, Al Shaikh said: "For sure, 100 per cent he goes all the way to the Derby and I have Green Storm with Charlie Johnston for it too. This one has surprised us a little in how well he handled the trip and, if he can handle Chester, he can handle Epsom.

"When I buy them I know one or two are Derby horses and I knew this one would be two years ago, even if he's out of a jumps stallion. We're waiting for the dream and it's just one month to go now."

Al Wasl Storm is a general 100-1 for the Derby, with the betting headed by The Lion In Winter at 3-1.

Two good

Two Tempting proved just how key course form is at the Roodee when bouncing back to winning ways in the opening 71/2f handicap.

The Jonathan Portman-trained six-year-old's last success had come over course and distance in August, and he had taken a step back in the right direction when fourth in the Spring Cup at Newbury last time. He got the perfect trip from stall one to score by three-quarters of a length under Rob Hornby.

The rider said: "He's very uncomplicated and tries hard. He had a fantastic year last year when he kept on winning, and it's lovely for the owners [Berkeley Racing]. We felt like he was coming back to himself now.

"He's operating off lofty marks. Jonny found a nice opportunity today and let's hope he can build on it. He's a really fun horse and has won a lot of prize-money for his owners. Let's hope that continues."

Fantastic day for Fentimans

Up-and-coming apprentice Warren Fentiman rode his first track winner with Let's Dream's 33-1 shock in the 1m2½f handicap.

Not to be outdone, father Duran, who returned from a serious leg injury only this week, got in on the act by winning on Gibside in the Chester Plate, a consolation race for the Chester Cup.

"It's brilliant for him and after his winner I said he'll pay for the fuel home, but I think he might make me pay now," said Fentiman snr.
