An absolute disaster – they were the words used by Michael Dods in recalling star sprinter Mecca's Angel's run in last month's King's Stand Stakes.

But he wore the smile and bore the demeanour of a relieved man after she roared back to form with an emphatic success in the Group 2 Kilfrush Stud Sapphire Stakes, one of two big-race success on the card for jockey Paul Mulrennan.

As one of three previous Group 1 winners in the field, it was a fair test for her and she could not have come through it any better, quickening away from her rivals inside the final furlong to account for the progressive-looking Brando by three lengths.
