No one happier than Mitchell Bastyan to be back in action

Small fields and a modest crowd were the order of the day but there was no dampening spirits in the weighing room as riders were just pleased to be back in action after the flu-induced shutdown.

And few were looking happier than Mitchell Bastyan, a jockey who has been riding with a smile on his face this season as he puts a spell of unrest behind him that almost ended his career last year.

Bastyan, originally from Somerset but an integral part of the Glamorgan team of Evan Williams, was on the mark with Edgar for David Bridgwater in the 2m handicap chase, after which he spoke frankly about his tough journey back to contentment.
