No more sausage roll! Masque Of Anarchy strikes for Goodwood-bound trainer
Tuesday: Beverley
Masque Of Anarchy delivered at the fifth time of asking for Craig Lidster and a change in his routine at home certainly played a pivotal role.
At a price of 20-1, the six-year-old provided his North Yorkshire-based trainer with extra excitement on the eve of his first Group runner at Glorious Goodwood.
"A win like that has given us a boost and it gives you the feeling that everything is going in the right direction," said Lidster, who saddles Dickieburd in the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes.
"We recently changed the feed in the yard as he wasn’t quite fit enough and that’s why he was called sausage roll, because he gets so fat and he never looks thin.
"With the change of feed and change of routine, he has come alive in the last few weeks and he’s bouncing.
"He's tailor-made for those apprentice races. The lads can be a bit serious with him at home and he doesn’t quite like it.
"It’s why we wanted one of the best amateur jockeys to ride him and Eireann [Cagney] won the race too, it wasn’t just the horse."
Happy anniversary
Exactly three years to the day since the Micky Hammond-trained Irv last found himself in the winner's enclosure, the six-year-old ended the drought in division one of the amateur jockeys' handicap.
After a run of 25 starts without success, the son of Zoffany got his head in front, finishing half a length clear of Dandy’s Angel.
It brought up an across-the-card double for Hammond, who was also successful with Myboymax in the 1m6f handicap at Yarmouth.
