The annual Plumpton Cheltenham Bonus Series kicked off in style when Mister Malarky made a winning start over fences in the 2m3½f novice chase.

The 4-1 chance was first off the bridle in the four-runner affair but took full advantage of the exit of long-time leader Larry at the second-last to eventually better rival Risk And Roll under a great ride from Tom O'Brien.

The contest was the first of five novice chases to be staged at the Sussex track over the winter, the winners of which will scoop a £60,000 bonus if going on to glory at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
