No grounds for concern as track returns to action after enforced summer hiatus

You might think an absence of action would be welcome during the joint-hottest summer Britain has recorded, but Katie Stephens, Bath's clerk of the course, revealed the glorious weather had provided her with the most difficult moments she has experienced since tending to the turf.

Her pride and joy hosted its first meeting since July 25 after conditions became too fast for horses to gallop on.

No watering system meant five fixtures were rerouted, but after winning the 1m5f handicap on Street Jester, Liam Jones said: "It's quick ground – fast – but there's no jar in it and my fella let himself down on it."
