The career of Adrien Du Pont has stuttered since a Grade 1 win at Chepstow as a juvenile hurdler had pointed to special things.

But a first start over fences brought a debut win, the promise of a vault in class on his next appearance for Paul Nicholls and a quote of 33-1 with BetVictor for the JLT Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

“I was a little bit nervous coming out so soon with him,” said Nicholls after the five-year-old sat off the pace, jumped cleanly, eased into contention and won by a cosy two lengths.
